About the Lagotto

comes from the Romagna sub-region of Italy. The name means "water dog from Romagna," coming from the Italian word lago, or lake. Their traditional function is a gundog, specifically a water retriever. However, they are often used to hunt for truffles.

Appearance
Lagotto Romagnolos have large round eyes, their coats can be any shade color ranging from dark yellow to dark brown. The wooly coat is very thick, curly and does not shed, making them the perfect dog for an allergy sufferer. Solid colors include off-white, white, or brown. They can also be found white with brown or orange patches or roan. Males usually grow to a size of 43cm-48cm tall, weighing between 13kg and 16kg. Females grow to a size of 41cm-46cm, weighing between 11kg and 14kg. Their life expectancy is anywhere from 11-16 years.


Temperament

They have refined senses, especially smell. They are very loyal and loving, making them the perfect guard dog and family companion. They are extremely easy to train and are great with children. They get along with other animals effortlessly if socialised from a young age. Lagotti enjoy lots of exercise and affection.
